International Women's Day ! Dia Internacional das Mulheres!

Congratulations to all of us women! Why we celebrate this day today? Because on March 8th 1857, 129 women from a Cotton Industry in New York City, decided to go on strike March 8th 1857 was also marked to be the first strike to be conducted only be women) to ask for better conditions of work, less working hours, to a more humane working system, against getting beat up by other men co-workers and nothing being done after that and also against sexual arrestment. And unfortunately for those women, their lives were terminated drastically on that day as instead of getting a chance to be heard they were strongly intimidated and decided to refugee back inside the fabric industry. The owners, together with the police, locked those women inside and then, the place was set on fire and those women were burned to death!
On 1910, at the II International Women's Conference, was then decided that every year on March 8th those women were going to be remembered and to never be forgotten!
Wow!! al of this happened on 1857 but doesn't some of the news sound really familiar still nowadays?? Unfortunately yes!! And we are now at the year of 2009, it’s a new Era and things should be different by now, but so far little was changed. We did fight to change some very important laws to favor us, like the right to vote, to work, to receive same treatment at work as men do and etc but we still hear a lot of news of women getting beat up till death and little being done after that, and this still happens in a lot of different countries too where the law didn't change much about women's right! But even with all the obstacles that we are challenged every day, I am PROUD to be a woman that is a mom that works, nurture my family, and that is conquering my professional dreams day by day! So Celebrate today and every day as every day is our day! Happy International Women's Day!!

Parabéns para todas nós Mulheres! Porque celebramos essa data hoje? Porque no dia 8 de Março de 1857, em Nova Iorque, 129 operárias de uma fabrica de tecidos de algodão, decidiram paralisar seus trabalhos, reivindicando o direito à jornada de 10 horas. Era 8 de março de 1857, data da primeira greve norte-americana conduzida somente por mulheres. A polícia reprimiu violentamente a manifestação fazendo com que as operárias refugiassem-se dentro da fábrica. Os donos da empresa, junto com os policiais, trancaram-nas no local e atearam fogo, matando carbonizadas todas as tecelãs.

Em 1910, durante a II Conferência Internacional de Mulheres, realizada na Dinamarca, foi proposto que o dia 8 de março fosse declarado Dia Internacional da Mulher em homenagem às operárias de Nova Iorque para que essas mulheres nunca fosse esquecidas e que esse dia fosse para sempre lembrado.
Mas eu me pergunto, isso tudo ocorreu em 1857, e porque até hoje eu ainda escuto notícias muito parecidas como esta? Infelizmente sim, ainda escutamos tais barbaridades! E nós estamos no ano de 2009, uma nova Era e muito já deveria estar diferente mas pouco foi feito e mudado. Nós (mulheres) lutamos e vencemos em causas muito importantes, como o direito de votar, de receber tratamento de igualdade em relação aos homens no setor profissional (apesar de que ainda ouvimos histórias diferentes!) e outras causas mais, mas infelizmente todos os dias ouvimos ainda notícias horríveis de mulheres sendo espancadas pelos seus maridos ou estrupadas e pouco sendo feitos depois sobre isso!! E isso ocorre em praticamentes todos os países, inclusive EUA, mas no Brasil tem sido demais!!
Mas mesmo apesar de todos esses obstáculos que enfretamos todos os dias, eu sou ORGULHOSA de ser MULHER! De ser mulher e mãe, que trabalha, que dá afago,acolhe e ama sua família e que busca novas conquistas profissionais a cada dia!
Por isso celebre hoje e todos os dias, pois todo dia é o nosso dia!
